December 2005 – Present | System Administrator Team Leader
NetValue Ltd | Level 2, 18 London Street Hamilton
NetValue consists of a number of companies, all of which I am System Administrator Team leader for. These companies are as follows:
- Interspeed Web Solution (http://www.interspeed.co.nz)
- WebAddress Domain Name management (http://www.webaddress.co.nz)
- Sites Online Australasia (http://www.soa.net)
- Entertainz Web Hosting Solutions (http://www.entertainz.co.nz)
- Site Centres (http://www.sitecentres.co.nz)
- Reeltwo Ltd
- Keysoftware Ltd (http://www.keysoftware.co.nz)
This is an interesting role, learning about large-scale webhosting. My technical role is of system administrator, maintaining and updating all company, and hosted machines, with a variety of operating systems. These include, but are not exclusive to, Ubuntu Linux, Gentoo Linux, Debian Linux, Windows 2000/2003, Mac OSX.
In my non technical role I am responsible for the day-to-day management of the Systems and Support team, this includes off site contractors. I organise and appropriate emergency cover for all systems within the team, and allocate work where appropriate.
As senior system administrator I am also responsible for the support of customers on a high level. If an issue is escalated, I am ultimately the person who resolves the issue, and I communicate directly with the customer until resolution has been reached.
Much of my job entails quoting for work, and or machinery. Many of the larger customers, who own their own hardware, will consult with me from time to time to ensure they receive an unbiased opinion on the decision they should make. I have been careful to deliver options to these clients, explaining best practices, but also pointing out cost and return for these best practices. I have endeavoured in all cases to portray as many pros and cons as possible to the client.
I pride myself in building strong, reliable, and lasting relationships with customers, which in turn encourages a positive relationship between the company I represent and the customer.
