March 2007 – November 2009 | Board Chairman
Hamilton’s Fraser High School | 72 Ellicott Road, Hamilton
In 2007 I stood for the Board of trustees at Hamilton’s Fraser High School (HFHS). I was duly elected, and have served through a 3 year term. This is my first experience in governance, and I have excelled in this area.
In December 2008 I was elected chairman of the board. This has extended my learning to true governance. It has also extended my already existing skill set in industrial relations, financial management, and employee negotiations.
The school employs approximately 200 teaching staff, and 27 support staff. Much of the authority over staff has been delegated to the Principal, however the board is still responsible for the appointment, appraisals, and professional development of the senior management team.
Although my term at HFHS has not been without challenge, I have enjoyed it immensely, and hope that my involvement will continue in to the future.
